The Moley Woman

She had a pink mole on her left cheek right by her nostril that wobbled every time she opened her mouth. Like a little pink earthquake it erupted when she laughed, which had been approximately six times since she’d sat down. Everyone around her looked away as if she wasn’t there, and the petite, freckled teenager who sat down next to her awkwardly scurried to find her earphones in her green and pink polka-dotted backpack. The Moley Woman was hunched over her knees, hastily shoveling a quart of Stonington Farm’s blueberry yogurt into her mouth. Thick jet-black eyeliner surrounded her electric blue eyes. She wore navy scrubs that barely reached her ankles and a pair of once white sneakers that now blended in with the muddy yellow floor of the subway car. She got off at the next stop, and her mole shook with laughter.
